Disable Shopify shopping cart abandonment emails?

Shopify Shopping Cart Abandonment Emails

Should I disable Shopify shopping cart abandon emails if I am using a third-party tool?

If you want the short answer. Yes. If you leave the Shopify cart abandon emails on while you are using a third-party tool like stamped.io or mailerlite then both tools will issue shopping cart abandonment emails.

If you do turn them off you can also manually send them to customers as each cart has its own direct URL, so you can email someone a link and when they click it they will go straight to their shopping cart with all their goodies in it.

How to turn off Shopify Cart Abandon emails

You can disable these quite easily and the risk is low. So don’t be worried about disabling them. You will have time to test your other tool and check it’s all OK without losing any data or messing anything up.

Here are the steps

  1. Log in to your Shopify store.
  2. Go to Settings > Checkout (or /admin/settings/checkout)
  3. Scroll down the page and near the bottom, there is a section called Abandoned checkouts
  4. Deselect the tick box at the top which says ‘Automatically send abandoned checkout emails

Untick the ‘Automatically send abandoned checkout emails’ tick box

5. Click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the screen.

That’s it! You’ve done it. There is no reason why you cannot easily tick this box again in the future.

Is it worth it to do shopping cart abandoned emails?

If you are not using SCA (shopping cart abandonment) emails then I would recommend it. It’s free, easy to do and worth the conversions you will get from them.

It takes a little time to set it up. Comment below if I can help.

If you include or offer a free discount coupon or gift to return and purchase then that’s a good hook to try to get people back.

Shopify’s cart abandonment email is not bad but you’re better off looking at a tool like stamped.io or even better, an email tool like mailerlite to manage your SCA automation.
